SEEKING A UKRAINIAN HOST PARTNER

Turn fleeting sunshine to durable heat.

Help co-ordinate the effort to build a pilot thermal storage plant. Dirt-cheap, resilient to attack, and able to recharge off-grid.

Help identify a host ↗

Target: winter 2026–27 · We need your help!

How it works

  1. Pixel-art solar array and a grid connection supplying electricity.
Electricity is gathered from the grid or from the on-site solar panels
  2. Pixel-art cutaway of an earthen mound with an external blower, power cable, and hot-air and return pipes forming a loop.
Intermittent power is used to pump heated air into an earthen core. Storage can accumulate seasonally
  3. Pixel-art central heating facility with a hot-air inlet, boiler, water and steam circuit, and return pipe.
When needed, heated air is cycled into an existing central heating facility, generating thermal stability.

01 / START SMALL

Demonstration of concept.

The ideal site for Blue Khata:

  • An undeveloped site of approx. 0.5 acres near urban dwellings with central heating.
  • Desire to supplement grid-supplied heat.
  • An opportunity to prove the concept for wider deployment.

Build for the future

The potential for uninterrupted heat.

While the pilot site cannot replace existing grid supply, a working demonstration would pave the way for a future of uninterrupted heat. Earthen thermal storage powered by intermittent solar is cheap to install, maintain, and resilient to attacks to itself and the wider grid.

Help secure a future of winter independence in Ukraine.

What would a whole winter require?

Illustration: 200 m² × 170–250 kWh/m² per heating season = 34–50 MWh of space heat, before network losses. This is a broad building-stock benchmark, not a warming-centre design.

Seasonal operation needs a larger store, a local solar-production model, verified months-long heat retention, and sufficient heat output on the coldest days. Charging must begin before winter. Final capacity and land area remain open.

Know a community
that could host this?

We are looking for an interested local point-of-contact in Ukraine to discuss implementing this novel solution.
